Jonathan Jaques: A young cancer patient's vision continues to help others

In 1976, Jonathan Jaques, a 16-year old cancer patient, asked his parents to establish a fund to help other children with cancer. The first donation to the newly-created entity came from Jonathan's life savings - $1,000.

Over time, Jonathan's fund attracted the attention of others also interested in helping children with cancer. In 1983, the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center (JJCCC) was dedicated at Miller Children's Hospital in Long Beach, California.

Although cancer ended Jonathan's life too soon, his legacy lives on through the treatment, research and support programs that his unselfish and visionary act have made possible. Today, many people - patients, families and friends, community and business leaders, healthcare professionals and ordinary people who want to do something extraordinary - support JJCCC with gifts of their treasure, time and talent.

Jonathan Jaques taught the world much about giving and sharing during his brief lifetime. His legacy endures as children and their families continue to receive innovative treatment, compassionate care and support at the Center that proudly bears the name of this young visionary…the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center.
